| The "Hana Relay 2006" is a story about
the Hawaii Foodbank team on vacation in Maui getting ready to
run the Hana Relay in a week. The Hawaii Foodbank team discovers
the beauty of Maui by visiting Molokini Crater and snorkeling
on thier first day. The team also scrambles to find a van driver
when Jeff Ling cancels due to work commitments. The team meets
Greta Cornett to help drive the van on the catamaran and Amanda
Clark, a massage therepist to help the team stay loose during
the race. |

 |
| During the week, the team finds adventure at the
Hana Lava Tube exploring over a mile deep in the cave. |
 |
 |
| The worlds largest Red Tea Leaf maze is on Maui.
Some of us found it more difficult to get out of the maze then
it was to get in. The team had a competion to see who could get
out of the maze first. |

| We spent alot of time in Lahina exploring the the
shops and art galleries. Our hotel was positioned on the beach
so each morning we spent a couple hours on the beach having fun.
We played vollyball, made sand castles, kayaked, and had several
picnics. We watched the sunset on servel accations because the
beaches at Lahinia are one of the few places you can view 5 Hawaiian
Islands at once. The weather was perfect and sunny each day. Sometimes
at night it would sprinkle with rain making the week humid. |
 |
 |
| When the day was done or sometimes several times
a day, we stopped and had some ice cream. |
 |
 |
| During some times of the week, we talked about the
4 hour and 37 minute Hana 52-mile Relay record and whether or
not it was possible with our team if we could break the record.
We all agreed that if that was going to be a possiblity, that
everyone needed to run as fast as they could and handoffs needed
to go smoothly. Could we do it? Could we do something spectacular
on Saturday morning? |
